GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

Sir,

I have the honour to request authority to place

the ungraded post of clerk and assistant in the Public Works Depart-

-ment in the graded establishment as a 3rd. grade post, with

effect from 1st. January, 1916. This will involve increasing the

salary of the post from 8840 per annum to 8960 per annum rising by

biennial increments of 120 to $1,200.

The present occupant of the post is Mr. Yu

Hoi Seng, an able and efficient officer, who had previously served

in the Department as a temporary foreman of roads and whose

services were retained on the recommendation of the Director of

Public Works.
